President's Message
by Phil Sorrentino
Member of the Sarasota Personal Computer Users Group, Inc.January 2008 heralds a new year, and brings new leadership to the Sarasota PC Users Group. I would like to thank the nominating committee for their confidence in me and the other elected members of the board of directors. I would also like to thank all of the SPCUG members for their support in the December election. (So far this sounds like a lame Emmy speech. Maybe I should thank my parents, siblings, and dog, Spot.) I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dave Winkleman and his 2007 board for their fine leadership during the past year.
2008 is going to be a great year for SPCUG. We have exciting presentations planned for the monthly meetings, expanded educational offerings, and a host of opportunities for members to get involved in. Starting off the year will be a presentation by Comcast on their Internet and “Triple Play” offerings. In the educational area, we will continue with our basic classes, held at Sarasota County Technical Institute, and we have added Mini-Special Interest Groups to explore specific computer topics in depth. (Mini-SIGs are one or two sessions in length, as opposed to the basic courses which are typically 4 sessions.) Our main communications vehicle, the Monitor, our award winning newsletter, will continue to be filled with informative articles, software and hardware reviews, and information about the organization. Our Computer Refurbishing community service project will continue to provide refurbished computers to many organizations and individuals. To this date we have refurbished over 680 computers.
Volunteers are what make this organization run so well. 2008 will be a great year because of all the volunteers that are at the heart of the organization. I would like to thank all of you who have generously given your valuable time, and would encourage you to continue or even expand your activities. For anyone who would like to pitch-in and help, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Pat Wheeler.
